Queen Charlotte Coat by FREED

When I was invited to the FREED FW’14 media preview back in the summertime, I had a feeling I was going to fall in love. Perhaps it’s my natural Canadian instinct to stay warm, but I love coats and I have a LOT of them. As soon as I clicked through the look book, I set my sights on the Queen Charlotte coat with a feminine belted silhouette and a dramatic fur-lined shawl collar hood that can be worn various ways. Putting it on totally sealed the deal…

This coat is everything. Warm, versatile, incredibly eye-catching and proudly made in Canada. Every time I’ve worn it out, someone stops me to inquire about where they can get it.

FREED outerwear can be purchased online or through luxury retailers like Holt Renfrew and Pink Tartan. In addition to their impeccable quality and style, there’s something that sets them apart from the rest. They’ve been around since 1921 (based in Winnipeg) and their extensive resume includes uniforms for the Canadian Armed Forces, Olympic team jackets and the RCMP’s iconic red “Mountie” jacket – impressive right?!

I had the opportunity to chat with President and fourth generation owner, Marissa Freed, and her passion for the company’s iconic Canadian heritage is reflected in her designs, along with keen attention to detail and classic style. FREED coats are made of luxurious English Tweed, which is 100% eco-friendly virgin English wool and built to last – I know I’ll wear mine for years!
